Mireille and Fiona's "Cancer Sisters" Lunch, Princeton/Princeton Junction (monthly) (DM003)
The purpose of this monthly meeting is to support women who have experienced the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The menus are based on Paleo and anti-inflammatory diet protocols. In addition, Mireille's philosophy of "It's not just what we eat, but how we eat" will inform this meeting, as the group will regularly do a consciousness practice on how to eat wisely and learn how to put the body in “rest and digest” mode. Discussion topics will include Suppers concepts, stress reduction, getting support from friends and family, along with themes from the book, Anticancer: A New Way of Life by David Servan-Schreiber. This meeting is limited to 8 participants.
Held on a Monday or Wednesday, once a month. 11:30am for food preparation; 12:30pm for lunch.
Menu: Omnivore, but vegetarians/vegans can be accomodated.
Mireille grew up in France where the social and pleasurable aspect of food is very important. After some personal health challenges, she started paying attention to a lifestyle more conducive to healing. Living on a mini-farm enables her to do that. Mireille is also the co-founder and a board member of the West Windsor Farmers Market, a Holistic Health Counselor and a Yoga Therapy practitioner. She supports Suppers because it "is a unique program, not bound to any commercial agenda, that gives people the much-needed education, tools and direct experience about how to be well and live in greater balance."
Fiona grew up in the north of England in a farming community where food and cooking were a major part of her life. She completed her education as a registered nurse through the University of the West of England and continued her career as a diabetes nurse consultant in Sydney, Australia. She studied at Duke Integrative Medicine and works independently as an integrative health coach, with clients in the US and internationally. After relocating to the US with her husband and two sons, she discovered The Suppers Programs. “I immediately connected with the benefits Suppers was providing people with diabetes and many other health concerns. After going through treatment for cancer, exploring different ways of supporting my health was never more important to me -- and the knowledge I continue to gather through Suppers is invaluable.” Fiona co-facilitates a monthly lunch meeting for women who have been diagnosed with cancer and would like to support one another's efforts toward a healthy lifestyle.
